Room For Improvement
I imagined there would be some kinks to work out as an inaugural event, but I didn't imagine how disappointed I would be in the actual set up & preparation of this event. Over 90 degrees outside each day of this event, it was. No one was allowed to bring in any water or ice; we were allowed to bring in empty soft plastic bottles to refill in water stations that were empty by 1pm each day. We only found 3 refilling stations that were 50 gallons each for an event boasting 30k in attendance for Saturday & 110k on Sunday. We were instructed to walk into Nissan Stadium to use the water fountains in there, that they had no idea if more water was coming when we asked if they were going to be refilled. The water from the refilling stations & stadium was warm & less than refreshing on such a hot humid weekend. So we purchased cold water from the vendors for $5 a bottle x 10 bottles over the weekend. Well played Big Machine. You didn't get to sit in your seat Fri or Sat if you had a ticket for grandstand 6 because the actual grandstand wasn't finished until Sunday. Grandstands 6 & 7 were so far away from the main event area, there was only one way to get over to them & it was over a mile walk to get from those grandstands to see the car paddock. And vice versa if you were in any other grandstand & wanted to see the Super Truck paddocks. There was definitely room to add another bridge to make access easier for both grandstand/paddock areas. The vendors weren't properly stocked prior to opening to the public, golf carts were everywhere, delivering more & more water & supplies weaving through the crowds at the most inconvenient times making it more difficult to maneuver through so many people & vehicles. There was no easy access for those driving supplies to get to the vendors without going through the crowds. The only place to sit & eat was one covered tent behind grandstand 6, which wasn't even near the main fan zone & food center. No other food area provided a space to sit to eat. All the vendors for merchandise & food were exceptionally pleasant for such a hot, crowded weekend. Vanderbilt staff & EMS workers were excellent as well. I saw them checking on many people throughout the day Sat & Sun. Despite not having enough water in the refilling stations for the crowds there was enough porta-potties to accommodate the crowds & there were several areas with access to the porta-potties. No one in my group had to wait over a minute to get access to use the porta-potties.
